Some acute phase proteins, oxidative stress biomarkers and antioxidant enzyme activities in ewes with pregnancy toxemia
Authors
Abstract:
The aim of this study is to investigate antioxidant enzymes, oxidative stress biomarkers and the acute phase proteins levels for subclinical and clinical pregnancy toxemia and to determine the effect of early diagnosis on the success of curing. According to the results of clinical and biochemical parameters, from 39 ewes, 10 were healthy ewes (control group), 13 ewes had subclinical pregnancy toxemia (subclinic group) and 16 had clinical pregnancy toxemia (clinic group). Glucose level and glutathione peroxidase(GSH-Px), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) activity in clinic group were found statistically lower than in the other groups (P

full textAcute phase proteins in experimentally induced pregnancy toxemia in goats.
The present work aimed to study the behavior of acute phase proteins (haptoglobin, serum amyloid A, acid soluble glycoprotein, fibrinogen, and albumin) in fasting-induced pregnancy toxemia in goats and their relationship with classical indicators of this disorder such as beta-hydroxybutyrate and nonesterified fatty acids in the blood and decreased urine pH and ketonuria. Twelve adult Murciano-G...
full textDiagnosis, Treatment and Prevention of Pregnancy Toxemia in Ewes
Thin ewes or very over-conditioned ewes and ewes carrying multiple pregnanciesare more likely to develop pregnancy toxemia (ketosis). Pregnancy toxemia is a metabolic disorder characterized by hypoglycemia and hyperketonemia resulting from incapacity of the ewes to maintain adequate energy balance (usually in the last 5-6 weeks).Available information about pregnancy toxemia focuses mainly on pa...

full textUtility of Acute Phase Proteins as Biomarkers of Transport Stress in Ewes and Beef Cattle
The effect of transport on serum amyloid A (SAA), haptoglobin (Hp), Fibrinogen and white blood cells (WBC) was evaluated in 10 ewes and 10 beef cattle. All animals were transported by road for 6 h over a distance of about 490 km with an average speed of 80 km/h. Blood samples, collected via jugular venepuncture, were obtained before and after transport as well as after 12, 24 and 48 h rest time...
